At Knowsley Dementia care support – Memory Lane, we understand that dementia affects not only the person living with the condition but also the family members, friends, and caregivers who support them every day. Our mission is to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of both individuals living with dementia and those who care for them by providing compassionate support, meaningful activities, and a welcoming community.
Our story began in 2013 with a simple but important goal: to bring people together. We started by running a weekly Wednesday group where people living with dementia and their caregivers could attend together. These sessions provided opportunities for connection, friendship, activities, and conversation with others facing similar challenges. It became a place where experiences could be shared, support could be found, and lasting friendships could be formed.
Over the years, the Wednesday group grew into a valued community where both caregivers and those living with dementia felt understood, supported, and less alone. We saw first-hand how important social connection, engagement, and peer support were in improving wellbeing and helping people navigate their dementia journey.
Building on this success, we opened our dedicated respite day centre in 2021. The creation of Memory Lane allowed us to expand the support we could offer, providing a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment for people living with dementia while giving caregivers valuable time to rest, attend appointments, spend time with family, or simply recharge.
Today, Memory Lane continues to be a place where people can enjoy meaningful days filled with companionship, laughter, and purpose. We offer a range of engaging activities designed to promote wellbeing, encourage social interaction, stimulate memories, and support independence. Whether taking part in arts and crafts, music sessions, reminiscence activities, games, gentle exercise, or simply enjoying a conversation over a cup of tea, every individual is encouraged to participate in a way that is meaningful to them.
We firmly believe that no one should face dementia alone. Our centre is built on the values of dignity, respect, compassion, and community. We are here to support both the person living with dementia and their caregiver, recognising that both deserve care, understanding, and opportunities to thrive.
